Well, there I was! I did not really feel like I fit in where I was but I did feel that I was supposed to be there. Sometimes God leads us down paths that make no logical sense. I knew no logical reason for me to be on this path. I had absolutely no idea what I was going to do with this major when I graduated.
I did not know– but God knew. In my senior year, I was offered a graduate assistant position in the counseling department. Keep in mind that I did not even know a position like this existed so I certainly had not applied for it. One of my professors (the head of the department) just called me in his office and offered it to me. I took the position immediately after graduation and started a master’s program in Community Service Counseling.
A year later I was nearing the completion of that program and once again had absolutely no idea what I was going to do with that degree. Once again, God took control. The month that I was to graduate, I was driving down the street in my hometown and saw a sign on a building that said Community Service, Inc. Keep in mind that I had no previous knowledge of its existence.
I stopped in to discover it was a youth and adult services organization and was immediately given a position as the coordinator of the satellite mental health clinic and doing follow-up family and children counseling associated with the psychiatrist, psychiatric social worker, and Clinical Psychologist who visited on Saturdays. I even did a brief stint as the juvenile probation officer for the county.
Next time we take a look at a bit of history again. Just a bit!
Biblical Inspiration: Romans 8:28 – And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.
Lesson in a Nutshell: Sometimes God leads us down paths that make no logical sense to us. If we have studied God’s word, prayed, and feel we are truly being led down that path, we are to have the faith to blindly follow.
