Sorry, but another history lesson needed here I think. Computers were a brand new thing and one of the subjects that I taught was Computeronics: An introduction to Computers. I had a classroom full of Commodore 64 computers (look that one up if you want a flashback to prehistoric computer days) and some classrooms full of students who in two lessons knew more than I did about how to use them! I have to chuckle at the fact that I was actually one of the two first computer instructors in the school district because I switched priorities and was left so far behind that I am now computer illiterate!! More irony, I do have a daughter who is now a robotics coach and instructor!
Moving on, last year I ran into a former student who told me that he will never forget something that I told them in computer class one day. I was almost afraid to ask what but when I did he said that I told them that “one day we will all be shopping, ordering groceries, paying bills, and just about everything else using a computer”. He remembers thinking that I must be crazy because there was no way that would ever happen! A statement that I do not even remember making turned out to be a very accurate prediction of the future and more importantly, something that stuck with him for over thirty years!
Biblical Inspiration: Psalm 141:3 – Set a guard, O Lord, over my mouth; keep watch over the door of my lips.
Biblical Inspiration: Matthew 12: 36,37 – I tell you, on the day of judgement people will give account for every careless word they speak for by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned.
Lesson in a Nutshell: Be careful what you say particularly around vulnerable ears.
