That project made for a much more peaceful and enjoyable summer and was well worth every bit of the money involved! My only regret was that one lost most of hers at the very end after following the rules so well all summer! I wanted so badly to give it to her anyway because she had done well all summer. I I would have preferred to ignore that last few days but I knew that I had to keep my word and my rules. Discipline has to be consistent and if you set boundaries and rules it has to be boundaries and rules with which you can and are willing to follow through.
That fact brings to mind the subject of grounding used as discipline. Grounding has never been a parenting tool that I believe in using. The reason for that is my belief that whenever you do that, at least 99% of the time, it winds up being more trouble for the parent than they are willing to put up with so they cave and never follow through. Children pick up on that extremely fast and learn that grounding will not last and will ultimately be not punishment at all!
