For fun, I am going to throw in a little something I used as part of teaching them golden rule behavior. A couple of summer, I did not want to have to correct them constantly so I came up with an alternate plan opposed to constant verbal correction and other punishments. I made poster boards for each of them and listed my expected good behaviors on them. Understand, these were not nitpicky rules but very broad rules for behavior which if followed prevented chaos and constant reprimands. I explained to them that at the beginning of summer they each had $100 which would be collected at the end of summer If they did not lose it? Whenever they committed an infraction listed on the board they lost part of that $100. In case you are curious, two of them had almost the full amount at the end of summer and one, which I won’t identify, had the full amount until the last week of summer when she lost almost half in one day! I have no doubt that she herself can tell you why to this day!
