Today we continue the saga of how Abby Sue came to be. As I told you earlier I had gone off to college thinking I would major in journalism. However, that just did not seem to fall in to place. I did a lot of praying about what I should major in and it seemed to me that God lead me in the direction of psychology.
I guess this is the time for another history lesson about the late sixties. Back then, females were not allowed to wear jeans or pants of any kind. It was dresses only. Actually it was miniskirts so I never quite saw the logic in how pants were considered obscene and miniskirts were not. However, my second year in college we were allowed to wear pant “suits” which were basically mini dresses over loose fitting pants! Anyway, enough of the fashion lesson. Getting back to my dilemma over a major, as I said earlier, I was being led to psychology.
At that time psychology was a fairly new major at that college and the people in that major were considered a “little strange. Also, there were very few females there in that particular major. Yet there I was training my white rat in experimental psychology class and doing all the other classes with the other “strange” people. Incidentally, it did little for the advancement of female participation when for some unknown reason my first rat died! Naturally, mine was the only one that did. I can’t say that I actually loved working with the second rat I was assigned but Algenon and I did learn to get along and I somehow managed to finish his training and the course.
Biblical Inspiration: Trust in the Lord with all your heart and do not lean unto your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and he will make straight your path.
Lesson In a Nutshell: Follow where God leads you, even if it is not the “beaten path.”
