We also made a video which we called Super Citizens in which different students performed, produced, and filmed little short skits portraying the proper way to behave in several different situations. We later showed that in classrooms and assembly.
One of my favorites was Career Awareness Week with all of its different activities. This one was probably inspiration for the second “big lesson” in “Abby Sue, Where Are You?”. In the book there are pages displaying pictures of Abby Sue in different careers providing the opportunity for parents to discuss with their child the fact that if they work hard and follow God’s plan for their life they can become anything. There is no limit! During Career Awareness Week, once a year, we brought in speakers from many different occupations and careers to speak in classrooms about what they do and how they prepared for it. We had a poster contest, did daily coloring sheets which depicted a variety of careers, and the week culminated with a dress-up day/costume contest in which they dressed as what they wanted to become in the future.
I think that is enough time spent on the proactive part of those years. Next time we will concentrate on some therapeutic issues and methods tied to the conception of “Abby Sue, Where Are You?” many years later.
Biblical Inspiration: Jeremiah 29:11 – For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.
