Before we begin talking about the therapeutic issues which led to the creation of Abby Sue, Where Are You? all those years later, it is time for another history lesson.
Thankfully, we now have a thriving little community located at the base of beautiful Petit Jean Mountain. However, at that particular time our community was going through a period of economic depression and subsequent low self-esteem and hardship itself.
We had lost several industries. People had moved away to find jobs and many who stayed drove to other towns to work, or had no jobs at all. Needless to say, we were a very low income community struggling economically.
That, of course, affected out school population with a drop of numbers and the majority of students living in those less than desirable environments. Consequently, not only was there a tremendous need for positive self-esteem building activities to be put into place but there were unfortunately, also therapeutic issues with which to deal. We will discuss those next time.
Biblical Inspiration: John 13:34 – A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another.
Biblical Inspiration: Psalm 119:105 – Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.
Lesson in a Nutshell: Sometimes things get dark around us but we cannot give up hope. We have hope by using God’s word to light our path.
