The following year I was given a full day of teaching responsibilities at the junior high. Incidentally, my statement about teaching anything was once again put to the test that year when my full day included an American History class along with my computer classes. I had made the bold assertion that I could teach anything. That statement became a premonition because during the next three years I taught physical science, computeronics, keyboarding, general math, general science, and American history, and a form of journalism as newspaper sponsor.
I suppose we should also add to the list college level General Psychology which I taught for five years as an adjunct professor at UACCM years later when I was at high school.
In retrospect, some experiences were very difficult but God was always there to lead me through them often by providing just the right person to help me through.
Through all that I also learned that God always answers prayers but not according to our timetable or exactly the way that we want. Remember the Garth Brooks song, “I Thank God for Unanswered Prayers”. He was wrong. Prayers are never unanswered. It just sometimes looks that way because they are answered on God’s schedule and in the way that is best for us in the long run. As Todd West once explained in a sermon, God answers in one of three ways: Go, Slow, or No. The no comes when granting that request would be contrary to His will for our lives.
My apologies for the detour. Next time I promise to get to retirement!
Biblical Inspiration: 1 John 5: 14-15 – This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. And if we know that he hears us-whatever we as-we know that we have what we asked of him.
Biblical Inspiration: 1 Thessalonians 5:17 – pray continually
Lesson in a Nutshell: Following God’s plan for your life does not mean everything is always going to be perfect and great and good. He doesn’t make that promise. Thankfully, He does promise to be with us through whatever challenges that we do face.
