The other class was a General Science class. It was not as much of a nightmare for mainly two reasons. I was there when the bell rang and they arrived for class and it was about half the size. There were only fifteen students.
There was, however, a huge problem. By huge problem I mean a senior who was about 6 feet 5 inches tall and consequently was accustomed to using intimidation to get his way. He alone made up for the other fifteen! Dealing with him every single day was no picnic! One day, I felt that I had ignored all that I should and it was obvious that he had completely drawn a line in the sand.
At that point we headed to the principal’s office. It must have been quite a sight, a 5’6” angry teacher leading a 6’5” giant down the corridor. He actually went quietly. That was probably because he knew that it would result in no negative consequences for him. And it did get him out of the classroom!
I learned from that experience what he already knew so we never went back again. I learned that I was on my own!
I still shudder when I think about that year. They were well aware that they had run off one teacher and they tried extremely hard to run me off as well.
It truly was only through the grace of God that they didn’t. Because of constant prayer, God given strength, and the preparation He had given me through previous experiences, they failed.
Biblical Inspiration: Philippians 4:6 – Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with Thanksgiving, present your request to God.
Biblical Inspiration: Luke 18:1 – Then Jesus told his disciples a parable to show them that they should always pray and not give up.
Biblical Inspiration: Matthew 7:7 – Ask and it will be given to you, seek, and you will find and the door will be opened to you.
Lesson in a Nutshell: In some situations success is a matter of endurance and perseverance.
