Other than being forced to cancel several trips scheduled for the summer and fall, one of the biggest changes in my life had been not having our grandchildren’s ballgames to attend. We went from having three to four softball and baseball games a week to enjoy to all teams being shut down. For example, my granddaughter’s high school softball team had their 2019-20 season abruptly shut down in March.
To her delight they were opened up to play an abbreviated season in the summer. We didn’t feel safe inside the crowded ballpark itself. However, we certainly did not want to fail to watch her play and support her. Unfortunately, that did create a huge problem. How could we watch and still feel socially distanced and safe?
This, like many other things during the year of COVID, called for creativity. We actually found a knoll overlooking the outfield, backed up the Ford F150 and watched her games from lawn chairs set up in the back of the truck. Not very conventional I’ll admit. Just some more crazy behavior necessitated by COVID.
In any event, we were about mid-season with this and it was actually working out quite nicely. In fact it actually worked so well that we were able to use it at other ballparks both for watching her softball and watching most of our two grandson’s baseball which had opened up as well.
This may all seem irrelevant but stay with me because I am actually setting the stage for what has now become my third and upcoming book, “The I Did That Cat”.
Biblical Inspiration: Joshua 1:9 – Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.
Biblical Inspiration: Deuteronomy 31:8 – And the Lord; He is the One who goes before you. He will be with you, He will not leave you nor forsake you; do not fear nor be dismayed.
Lesson in a Nutshell: Be willing to help others fulfill their dreams whenever the opportunity arises.
